Tri Ta

Tri Ta (* 1973 in Saigon , South Vietnam ) is a US local politician and mayor of Westminster , California .

Tri Ta came to the United States with his family at the age of 19. He graduated from California State University, Los Angeles , with a bachelor's degree in political science . He then worked for a Californian MP and most recently worked for a bilingual nail care magazine.

Tas began his political career in 2006 as a Westminster City Councilor. After a successful re-election in 2010, he applied for the office of mayor. With the support of the Vietnamese community and through his predecessor Margie Rice , who was no longer running , Ta won the election in November 2012. He became the first directly elected mayor of Vietnamese origin in the USA - before Tri Ta, the Vietnamese-born John Tran was mayor of Rosemead but only as a temporary chairman of a city council college.

Tri Ta belongs to the Republicans , although he is annoyed by their policies towards immigrants.
