Triftbahn
The Triftbahn is one of the four cable cars of the Oberhasli power plants that run to the public on a scheduled basis.
location
The Triftbahn is located in Switzerland in the eastern Bernese Oberland and opens up the glacier valley of the same name. The journey leads from the Käppeli valley station ( 1022 m above sea level ) on the Sustenpassstrasse in 10 minutes to the Trift mountain station ( 1390 m above sea level ).
Surroundings
From the mountain station a hiking trail leads up to the Trift suspension rope bridge at the Trift glacier and on to the Windegghütte ( 1887 m above sea level ) or to the Trift hut ( 2520 m above sea level ); both huts of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC.
history
The Triftbahn was built in 1960 to develop the Trift water intake. Two load bars made it possible to transport goods and personnel.
In 1992 a bar was replaced by a cabin previously used on Engstligenalp . In the summer of 2005, two new cabins were purchased and the lift opened to the public. A new drive and a new control system ensure that the new tram only needs a good half of the previous travel time.
business
The Triftbahn is in operation from mid-June to mid-October, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two cabins each hold 8 people.
