The Windegghütte is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), Bern section , in the canton of Bern ( Switzerland ). It is located in the Trift Valley above the Susten Pass route at 1887 m , in a panoramic position and near the Trift Glacier .

history

The first Windegghütte was built in 1891 and was a one-room hut with 12 beds and a wood-burning stove for self-catering. It was mainly used as a hunting lodge. In 1910 it was acquired by the SAC and in 1925 it was moved from its previous location, a snowy hollow, to its current location on the way to the Trifthütte. After the installation, it was designed for 10 people. In 1986 a new main hut was built according to building biology principles with 36 beds, which was inaugurated in the summer of 1987.

In the winter of 1998/99, the old hut could no longer withstand the snow masses. It was replaced by a new small hut in 2001. The transition to the Trift hut leads below the Windegg hut over the Trift bridge (variant 3 of the approach to the Windegg hut).

Approaches

from Unteri Trift ( Triftbahn mountain station ): The Triftbahn valley station is located at the Chäppeli postbus stop near Nessental
on Sustenpassstrasse (cabin with 8 seats; waiting times on weekends; season: mid-June - mid-October). This takes you to the Underi Trift.
- Option 1 (steep hut path; 1 ½ hours): Underi Trift - Bosslis Stein: path to the right
- Option 2 (family path; 1 ½ hours): Underi Trift - Bosslis Stein: path on the left
- Option 3 (2 hours): Underi Trift - Bosslis Stein: path on the left - Trift bridge hanging rope bridge (only has to be crossed for the Trifthütte) - chain path ( level of difficulty: chain path T3 )

from the Fuhren post bus stop
on Sustenpassstrasse (without Triftbahn):
- Chäppeli - Erggeli - Underi Trift: 3 hours, difficulty level T2, summer access
- Furen - Schaftellauiwald - Underi Trift: 3 ½ hours, level of difficulty T2
