location

It is located on the east side of the Triftweg in the Cracau district of Magdeburg, which characterizes the street scene .

History and architecture

The two-storey half - timbered house was built in 1877 and belonged to the Cracau-based master wheelwright Heinrich Ferchland. The elongated nine-axis building contained eight small apartments and was probably built as a tenement house. The building, vertically lined with wood on the street side, is one of the so-called rayon houses , which were erected in accordance with special building regulations in advance of the Magdeburg Fortress and had to be built in such a way that they could be demolished quickly in the event of war. There are finely profiled cover strips and a circumferential cornice on the facade.

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 82508 .

It is considered to be a significant testimony to the originally existing building restrictions in the area around the fortress, both in terms of town and military history. Currently (as of 2016) the building is empty and is in urgent need of renovation.
