The tricot ( French : tricot , to: tricoter "to knit ") is the name for a special knitted fabric in the textile industry . Tricot fabric was originally made from worsted yarn for suit and coat fabrics. Other materials are now also being used.

The tricot binding makes the fabric elastic and stretchable. For this purpose, chain and shortfall are used. The jersey can be ribbed lengthways, crossways or diagonally.

For example, tricot fabrics are used for t-shirts , swimwear, and sweatpants .
