features

Construction of the Imago

The animal reaches a length of 47 to 52 millimeters, 31 to 36 millimeters of which are on the abdomen , making it a medium-sized dragonfly. Their faces are light colored, but in males they turn black relatively quickly with age. The thorax is brown in front with a cream colored stripe in the middle. This area turns ash-blue in males with age. The sides are again cream-colored and are each divided by a brown strip. The rear wings reach a length of 36 to 42 millimeters and are amber-colored in the front fifth, just like the front wings. At the wing tips this can even go dark brown to black. The legs are brown at the base and turn black towards the bottom. The abdomen is brownish with a dark line in the middle. It becomes bluish with age. The middle segments are very flattened.

Construction of the larva

The larvae have eyes located in the center of the face and a long abdomen that tapers towards the end. The edge of the unpaired front part of the labium , the so-called prementum, is smooth.
