Trimester (study)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At some universities, the academic year is divided into trimesters (lat. Tri 'three' and mensis 'month' or trimestris 'three months '). In contrast to a semester , the trimester only consists of three months. There is a winter trimester (January – March), a spring trimester (April – June), a summer trimester (July – September) and an autumn trimester (October – December). The summer term is the only lecture-free time that is mostly used for internships , exams or vacation.

This classification is practiced at the two German universities of the Bundeswehr ( Helmut Schmidt University / Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg and Universität der Bundeswehr Munich ) and at the St. Lambert Seminary in Grafschaft . At some universities of applied sciences , at the Hamburg Bucerius Law School , the SRH Hochschule Heidelberg and in the Telekolleg , the academic year is divided up in this way. Trimesters are also common internationally, for example at ESCP Europe and at elementary, middle and high schools in Japan and the United Kingdom .
