history

After the church union of Brest , the settlement of Catholic churches and monasteries was made easier. The Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity and St. Maria Magdalena was built in the village from 1642 to 1646 . At the end of the 17th century, the Augustinian order settled, bringing prosperity and welfare to the place. In the 1830s, as a reaction to the November Uprising, the Russian government abolished its autonomy and, from 1831, suppressed the Catholic Church . As a result, many Volhyn churches and monasteries were closed, as was the Augustinian monastery; the monks withdrew. In 1832 the church was transferred to the Archeparchy of Lemberg . During the First World War , the place was directly at the front and the church was badly destroyed. Among other things, the dome of the church tower was blown up in order not to offer a target for the attacking artillery. From June 1916 until the end of the war the front ran right through the town; the church stood in contested no man's land and was used as a defensive position. It was closed in 1917. Therefore, clear traces of war are still visible in the masonry. After the war, the village was again poorly renovated in 1933. During the Soviet rule , the church was closed again in 1946. From this time on, the church became increasingly neglected; the building was used as a social house for the collective farm . Only after Ukrainian independence had been achieved was the church restored in the early 1990s through donations from abroad and transferred back to the Catholic Church and consecrated. In 1994 the bell tower was rebuilt. The listed building (1031 Ukraine Monument Protection List) is one of the oldest Catholic church buildings in Ukraine. It is assigned to the diocese of Lutsk .
