Trinity (discotheque)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Trinity in the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel was a posh discotheque from the 1980s. The discotheque was modeled on the New York Studio 54 and opened in December 1978 in the former “Kaisersaal” dance palace. After the end of Trinity in 1993, today's Delphi Show Palace is located in the building .

Seven interior designers spent around two thousand hours working on over a hundred detailed plans over a period of five months.

80,000 m of cable were laid, 1,000 lamps and spotlights, 300 m of neon lightshow tubes. 270 individual switches for operation around the touchboard. 2 huge containers under the DJ booth (you went into a kind of basement next to the booth) for the fog show. These containers were filled with dry ice and then hot water was run on them. The US magazine Billboard (the DJ magazine at the time) named the Trinity's light show the best in the world.

Richard Long and Associates, New York, output 10,000 watts, including 2 bass loudspeakers under the dance floor and 30 loudspeakers in groups around the dance floor. 4 power amplifiers, 2-channel DBX equalizer. Richard Long's specialists were needed to adjust the system to optimum sound.

The dance floor had an area of 200 m². There were 350 seats and there was space for about 1000 people. A main bar below, plus two bars to the left and right of the dance floor. There was also a bar on the gallery. Employees including DJ and LJ: There were always between 40 and 50 people busy, bar people, waiters, bellboys, cashiers, caretakers, technicians, etc.

The premises were large for the time, the furnishings were expensive, and the lighting system, on which a dedicated “light jockey” worked, was complex.

The Trinity was also the venue for concerts. In the 1980s, Depeche Mode , Level 42 and Shakatak played there .

It was closed in 1986; Under a different name (Base), a discotheque was operated in the premises for another four years, until this was also closed. Until 1992 the discotheque was operated again under the old name TRINITY. Then the doors were closed forever. The Delphi Show Palace is now located in the former rooms of the Trinity .

In 2006, Andreas Luther and Swen Geiss had the idea to put a homepage about the former Trinity online. This took place in 2007 with great success. The first two revival parties took place together with 54Disco.de and Trinity Hamburg.de in 2007 at Edelfettwerk Hamburg. With the DJs from the Trinity from back then like Jens Lissat, Gary Dee and Swen Geiss. In 2008, the revival party took over Kühl and Lissat and have been organizing it with great success to this day, most recently even in the original Trinity location.
