history

Trinity Church was built in 1863 to a design by Scottish architect Frederick Thomas Pilkington . In 1966 the parish merged with the parish of Wilson Fullarton Church to form St Paul's Church . In this context, the Trinity Church was abandoned and should first be demolished. For the following decade, the building stood empty and was vandalized. After another unsuccessful request for demolition, the church was restored in 1977 at a cost of £ 131,000. In the course of the work, two stained glass windows were removed and added to the collection in Ely Cathedral . The interior was removed the following year and the premises were redesigned for further use as a community hall and conference center. In 1982 a storm damaged the roof. After the last user left the building in 1997, the necessary repair work was carried out.

In 2001 Trinity Church was inscribed on the register of endangered listed buildings in Scotland. After various designs for a new use of the building fizzled out due to a lack of financial means, the demolition was requested again in 2002. The cost of restoration at the time was estimated at £ 1.8 million. A Japanese company proposed moving the building to Japan. In 2008 a design for the establishment of a gastronomic center in the church was approved. However, the start of the work was delayed. The roof was renewed in 2010 and the first phase of renovation work began the following year, with a volume of £ 500,000. Most recently, in 2012, the condition of the building was described as very poor, but with moderate risk.
