Trio (international title: Tribulation ., English for tribulation; also Trimatics ) is a combination game of the German Ravensburger GmbH , in which by mental arithmetic must be found suitable combinations of numbers.

Course of the game

The players lay out 49 square, colorful cardboard cards with rounded corners and numbers in the range from one to nine on a flat surface. The number field should consist of 7 rows and 7 columns. The numbers don't have to be aligned in the same way as in the picture. Now, one after the other, round, blue number chips with a number from 1 to 49 are revealed. Now each player should try as quickly as possible to find the number / digit requested on the round, blue number chip on the square number field. This should be done by calculating the requested numerical value from 3 digits on the square number field.

The digits that lead to this must be linked via a multiplication , addition or subtraction . The digits that may be used must be perpendicular, diagonal or horizontal to one another, but not in e.g. B. V or L shape. For example, if the square number cards 1, 3 and 5 are next to each other on the table, you can use them to create the solution for the number chips 8 (1 * 3 + 5, 1 * 5 + 3), 2 (1 * 5-3), 16 ( 3 * 5 + 1) and 14 (3 * 5-1). Often several, but sometimes no solutions are possible using the 7 × 7 number field.

If a teammate finds such a suitable combination of numbers, he shouts "Stop!" and shows the other his solution. If this is correct, he takes the round number card as a plus point. The aim of the game is to collect as many round, blue number chips as possible until there are no more round number chips left.

Motto of the game

The manufacturer advertises the game with the motto :

"Who can keep track of things and be the first to combine the correct numbers? Subtract, add, take ... that's what little mathematicians are required to skillfully combine three number cards and win easily!"

conditions

Players have a good chance of winning if they have good basic mental arithmetic and quick responsiveness.
