The artist works in the form of work groups of mostly two-part paintings and photographs, so-called diptychs. In these works a fragmentary, discontinuous, incomplete perception is examined.

His works are visually dominated by a greatly reduced color palette. In the seemingly monochrome colored surfaces, there are unstable geometric constructions made of metal-colored paint.

These are systematic, conceptual paintings: pictures with a wealth of colors that are not visible at first glance and that can only be accessed slowly. The colors are hidden.

The paintings are built up in several layers and the colored surfaces show structures. This surface treatment suggests objects or people behind a veil. Fragments of it shine through and become visible depending on the lighting.

Tristan Rain has been interested in archeology and cartography since childhood and his artistic works often use archaeological as well as cartographic concepts.

The artist has exhibited regularly in galleries, museums and art spaces since 1995.
