Kura Bridge (before draining)

The Dry Bridge ( Georgian მშრალი ხიდი , mschrali chidi ) is a road bridge in the Georgian capital Tbilisi . It was built between 1849 and 1851 by the Italian architect Giovanni Scudieri , who was the chief architect of Tbilisi from 1848 to 1851. Originally and until the 1930s, an arm of the Kura flowed under the bridge , which was artificially drained. Its name is associated with the disappearance of the river under the bridge, which dates from that time.
