Peter Malischewsky

Peter Malischewsky (born May 9, 1945 in Geising ) is a German geophysicist .

Peter Malischewsky, a child of Baltic parents, studied physics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1963 to 1968 and received his degree in geophysics in 1974 (Dr. rer. Nat.) And 1989 (Dr. sci. Nat.) At the Academy of Sciences PhD. In 1985 he worked in Moscow , Tbilisi and Leningrad . In 1994 he completed his habilitation in theoretical physics at the FSU Jena. Six years later he became an adjunct professor for geophysics with a focus on seismology until his retirement in 2010 . In 1999 and 2000 as well as 2004 he was visiting professor at the UNAM in Mexico.

His research topics include a. the theory of seismic waves with a focus on surface waves, seismology, seismic and ultrasonic tomography and the theory of fractals . His monograph on surface waves in disturbed media ( Surface Waves and Discontinuities ), published in 1987, is internationally regarded as the standard work on this topic. To this end, he occasionally reviews new specialist books .
