The dry fire engine or powder fire engine (abbreviations: TroLF and PLF ) is a no longer standardized fire engine in Germany ( special fire engine ).

The TroLF has a powder extinguishing system and a small fire-fighting equipment load. Its purpose is to extinguish fires without the use of water. This is e.g. This is necessary, for example, if burning substances or substances stored near a source of fire would react sensitively to contact with water (the metal sodium, for example, can start to burn on contact with water). Instead, a fire-retardant powder is used as an extinguishing agent . These vehicles can be found predominantly at airport fire brigades as well as factory and company fire brigades in the metal and chemical industry .

There are dry fire-fighting vehicles on chassis from various commercial vehicle manufacturers . The most common body builders are TOTAL WALTHER and Minimax / Rosenbauer . In the past, Magirus-Deutz also played an important role.

The following types are common (the number after the abbreviation indicates the capacity of the extinguishing powder container in kilograms):

  • TroLF 500
  • TroLF 750 (this variant was even DIN standardized earlier)
  • TroLF 1500
  • TroLF 2000
  • TroLF 3000
