The name Trodat

The current company name (company) Trodat arose from a product name. The first plastic date stamps with the name Trodat were produced in 1947/48. Trodat is made up of the syllables Tro and dat .

Tro stands for Trolitul, a plastic that was previously used to produce stamps. Trolitul is a brand name of Dynamit Nobel AG , Troisdorf for at least 1961 for polystyrene, which was invented in the 1920s and which can be processed as a thermoplastic by injection molding, which was also developed in Germany from this time on. Starting with the thermoplastic nitrocellulose (Trolit F) found by Dynamit Nobel in 1919, chemical companies (one of them called Troplast) in Troisdorf (Cologne district) have given many of their plastics and products names that begin with Tro ...

dat is short for date stamp.

In the late 1960s, Trodat was officially renamed as the company.
