Trogahorn Steibis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Trogahorn Steibis , also a hollow tree, is a 5.35 m thick sycamore maple near Steibis directly on the mule path from the Oberstiegalpe to the Falkenhütte . The 200 to 300 year old large tree veteran is hollow inside. The tree stands at an altitude of 1220 meters on a mountain meadow that belongs to the Nagelfluh mountain range near Oberstaufen . During the growing season there is a stone trough under the tree with water for the cattle, who also seek shelter from rain and strong sun in the shade of the tree. The crown of the sycamore maple is approx. 20 meters high and wide. Its age is also estimated to be higher, up to 400 years. The city of Oberstaufen, which has integrated the tree into its premium Alpine freedom hiking trail , specifies an age of 350 years and a trunk thickness of 6.5 meters, making the tree the second thickest sycamore maple in Germany.
