The Troll with the subtitle Berliner Rätselzeitung has been published since 1949, was a puzzle magazine in the GDR and was one of the magazines with the highest circulation there. In 1974 the magazine had a circulation of almost 700,000 copies, in 1988 almost a million, only surpassed by FF there , Wochenpost and Mosaik . Nevertheless, it could not meet the demand.

Today the Troll is published by Troll Rätselverlag and is available as a subscription or at kiosks in eastern Germany. The Troll is one of the few puzzle magazines, if not the only one, in which cross grids appear regularly .

The puzzles in the Troll puzzle booklet use the new spelling and use umlauts instead of paraphrases such as AE for Ä etc. In addition, emphasis is placed on the fact that the content consists exclusively of nouns in the singular and name and that the blind fields are arranged symmetrically . You will search in vain for prefixes, abbreviations, abbreviations and anglicisms . The authors' ambition is also to minimize the number of three-letter words in the puzzles. In addition, almost all types of puzzles can be found in the booklets. Math brain teasers, Schüttelrätsel , picture puzzles , mystery snails , chess compositions and much more.
