The Gu Shan ( Chinese 鼓山 , Pinyin Gǔ shān - "Drum Mountain ") is one of the most important tourist places in the city of Fuzhou ( Fujian Province , in southeast China ). Here you will find 18 mostly religious-historical sights (e.g. monastery, temple, characters carved into the rock, etc.), the entry of which is chargeable. The Gu Shan got its name from a rock that makes drum-like noises when it rains.
With its height of 969 meters, the Gu Shan offers a good overview of the metropolis. In all other directions the visitor gets a panoramic view of the undisturbed nature of a subtropical, wooded hilly landscape.
The summit can be reached on three transport routes. Centuries ago a network of footpaths and steps carved into the rock was built, which is still largely accessible today. The mountain has now also been made accessible to motor vehicles via an asphalt road. A gondola lift has also been set up.
The Gu Shan is very popular with the people of Fuzhou. They find relaxation here away from the polluted city air and are active in sports by climbing and walking.
