Tropidotilla litoralis is a hymenoptera fromthe ant family wasps (Mutillidae). Itis still unclearwhether the species should be assigned to the genus Smicromyrme .

features

The wasps have a body length of 8 to 15 millimeters (females) or 11 to 18 millimeters (males). The head and abdomen are black in the female, the antennae and legs are dark brown, the thorax is red. The end edges of the first five tergites and sternites two to five are lightly hairy. The first tergite is about a quarter narrower than the second tergite. There is a pygidial plate on the sixth tergite . The body of the males is black, only the second tergite is red. The head and thorax are black, a tuft on the scutellum and the abdomen is lightly haired. The tegulae, bent backwardsare big. As with females, the first tergite is a quarter narrower than the second. The seventh sternite has a longitudinal ridge.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from northwest Africa across southern Europe, southern central Europe and southern eastern Europe to Turkey and Central Asia. The larvae are parasites of Paragymnomerus spiricornis .
