The Oberhofen military training area (French: Camp militaire d'Oberhoffen) is located north of the village of Oberhofen an der Moder in Alsace .

history

After Alsace was recaptured by German troops in the Franco-Prussian War in 1871, locations were sought to station German troops. In the course of this stationing, the Oberhofen an der Moder military training area was set up in 1872. Furthermore, barracks were built north of the village.

On the map of the German Empire from 1909 the area was named Hagenau military training area .

From 1919 to 1940 the site was used by the French army . In 1940 the area was conquered by the German Wehrmacht in the course of the western campaign and used as a military training area. In 1945 the facilities at the training area were badly damaged by heavy fighting during Operation North Wind .

It was not until the 1970s that the rubble was cleared away. The French army has been using the training area itself again since 1976.
