The Truppenübungsplatz Thorn ( Polish Poligon toruński ) is located south of the city Thorn in West Prussia in the Polish province Kujawy . It covers an area of ​​12,400 hectares. It is mainly used as an artillery training area . It is used today by the Polish army under the name Poligon Thorun.

history

The first artillery exercises in the area took place in 1607. In 1874, the Prussian administration set up a permanent military training area on the site (see Military Training Areas (German Empire) ). This was used by the Polish army from 1920 . In 1939, the military training area was captured by the German Wehrmacht as part of the attack on Poland and put into use. In 1941 the prisoner of war camp Stalag 312 was set up on the site . In 1945 the Red Army captured the training area. The Polish army has been using the site as an artillery training area since 1946.
