Tsai Wan-tsai
Tsai Wan-tsai ( Chinese 蔡 萬 才 ; * August 5, 1929 ; † October 5, 2014 ) was a Taiwanese entrepreneur and banker .
Life
Tsai was born during the Japanese rule over Taiwan . Tsai came from a poor farming background in the north of the island of Taiwan. As a child, he and his brother sold vegetables and soybeans in Taipei. The family could not afford to attend high school. Ultimately, however, he was able to study law and in 1953 earned a bachelor's degree (LL.B.) from the National University of Taiwan . Together with one of his brothers, Tsai joined a credit cooperative in 1960. In 1978 he founded the Fubon Construction Corporation and in 1979 he was one of the founders of the Cathay Group .
Tsai headed the Taiwanese financial company Fubon Financial , which has controlled the Chinese First Sino Bank since 2012 . Tsai was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1972 to 1983, an adviser to the government (of the executive Yuan ) from 1983 to 2000, and an adviser to President Chen Shui-bian from 2000 to 2004 . Tsei was one of the richest Taiwanese according to Forbes Magazine and was listed in The World's Billionaires in 2013 . Tsai was married and had four children. Son Daniel Tsai ( 蔡明忠 ) served as Chairman of Fubon Financial Holdings and son Richard Tsai ( 蔡明興 ) served as Chairman of Taiwan Mobile . His nephew is the entrepreneur Tsai Hong-tu . His brother was the banker Tsai Wan-lin, who died in 2004 .
