Tschaldiran or Tschaldoran ( Persian چالدران Tschāldirān , DMG Čāldirān , tooسيه چشمه, DMG Siyah-Češme , historically tooقره عینی, DMG Qarah 'Ainī , in German Black Source ) is a city in the north of the Iranian province of West Azerbaijan . It is located northwest of the provincial capital Tabriz . In 2012 Tschaldiran had over 47,000 inhabitants.

On August 23, 1514 the Battle of Tschaldiran took place here.

Near the city is the monastery of St. Thaddäus , also known by the popular name Black Church (Kara Kilise).

In the Turkish province of Van there is a district of the same name Çaldıran .
