The Tschuchlomasee ( Russian Чухломское озеро ) is an almost circular freshwater lake in the Tschuchloma Rajon in the Russian Oblast of Kostroma .
Location and surroundings
The lake is located at a height of 148 m above sea level. It has an area of 48.7 km² and an average depth of 4.5 m. The lake has an almost round shape, with a diameter of 6 to 7 km. The banks are flat and swampy. The soil consists of mud and silt. The lake is frozen from late October to late April. A number of small rivers and streams feed the lake. It has a drain in the northwest, towards the Kostroma . The town of Tschuchloma is located on the south-eastern shore of the lake . On its northern bank, near the Selo Noschkino, is the Avraamijew- Gorodetsky Monastery, founded in the 15th century ( Авраамиев Городецкий монастырь ).
