Tschurtschchela ( Georgian ჩურჩხელა, Russian чурчхела ) is a Georgian confectionery that is eaten as a dessert . It is walnuts or hazelnuts , which in the classical form with a grape - chocolate coated. Variants of this are also made from other fruit juices.

Churtschela is a typical Georgian product that is sold everywhere in markets, by hawkers or by farmers on the roadside.

The nuts are first pulled up on a thread, knotted and dipped several times (eight to ten times) in a sweet and sour couverture made from pelamuschi , boiled down grape juice with cornstarch without sugar. Then they are hung in the sun to dry. They then have to mature for two to three months. After ripening, the confectionery is soft and covered with a fine dust of sugar that has emerged from the couverture.

The confectionery is popular under other names in Armenia , Azerbaijan , Turkey ( Cevizli Sucuk ) and Cyprus (Soutzoukos).
