Tsutomu Ōhashi

Tsutomu Ōhashi ( Japanese 大橋 力 , Ōhashi Tsutomu ; * 1933 in Tochigi Prefecture ) is a Japanese musician and scientist.

Ōhashi studied at Tōhoku University , where he received his doctorate in agriculture .

During his career, he has held positions such as instructor at Tsukuba University , professor at the National Institute for Multimedia Education (NIME) and Chiba University of Technology, and Head of Kansei , Cognitive and Neurosciences Department at Tsukuba University. Kansei Science is the science of the higher brain functions and an interdisciplinary research field between natural science (e.g. molecular neurobiology), art, medicine and neurology.

He works as a composer , conductor and producer as well as a scientist. His research interests include climatology , information science , Kansei science, production engineering , molecular biology , artificial life, and anthropology .

He is President of the Yamashiro Institute of Science and Culture and Director and Senior Researcher of the Foundation for the Advancement of International Science.

He is also known under the name Shōji Yamashiro ( 山城 祥 二 , Yamashiro Shōji ). In 1974 he founded the musician group Geinō Yamashirogumi ( 芸 能 山城 組 ), which is known, among other things, for the soundtrack of the anime classic Akira .
