Tuder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tuder is a surname found mainly in the Lower Austrian area of Mostviertel .

origin

The family name Tuder has been concentrated in the central region of Lower Austria for about 150 years. Other local predecessors of this name ( Dutter , Tutter etc.) are also common in the area.

The origin of the word cannot be clearly clarified, there are two assumptions:

  • 1st possibility : The name Tuder is related to the nicknames Dutt or Tutt , a short form of the old name stem Theuda , which is included in nicknames such as Diether , Dietbert , Dietz or Thietmar . Theuda is a common Germanic name , which means about people . The family name Tuder , derived from Dutt , Tuto or one of its variants, has a patronymic bond, it is named after his father or another person (uncle, servant, etc.). The name Tuder can therefore mean as the son or relative of a Dutt or Tuto .
  • Option 2 : The name Tuder is descended from a man who on a Tute , the Middle Low German form of the name bag , so a horn-shaped or funnel wind instrument could have played. This man could have played in the military or in an orchestra. Possibly he was also a minstrel, juggler or actor at fairs or kirt days. The development of the underlying professional name is due to the German weakness of consonants . One understands the coincidence of the strongly articulated first consonant and the weakly articulated second consonant. So maybe Tuder could have emerged from The Man with the Tute .

There are also speculations that the name is derived from the Latin form of the Italian city of Todi . This speculation cannot be confirmed, at least for the development of the name in Lower Austria, since the name in central Lower Austria developed from the name Dutter through sound shifting at the end of the 19th century and this in turn developed from the name Thuter .

distribution

In July 2007 around 90 people in Austria had the surname Tuder. That makes it a very rare name. Over 50% of these are recorded in Lower Austria. In Germany, the surname occurs even more rarely, it was only proven once in September 2009. The name is much more common in the United States. One reason for this is the emigration of several people named Tuder to the USA.

Modified surnames such as Dutter or Duda are somewhat more common in Austria, but they are also concentrated in the Lower Austria area.
