Tugu Pahlawan Kota Kinabalu
The Tugu Pahlawan Kota Kinabalu (Malay for "Heroes Monument" or "war memorial") in the Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu is a monument that the state government of Sabah for the annual celebration of the Sabah State Warrior's Day had built. The monument is the central focal point of the surrounding rainforest park ( "Taman Ujana Rimba Tropika" ).
Description of the monument
The center of the monument is a conical sculpture in the shape of a truncated cone shell open to the front. This sculpture, standing on a circular base, lies in a square water basin, which is lined with a tiled, also square surface. This area is in turn surrounded by a square water basin. Four access areas connect the tiled inner area with the surrounding park. A black marble slab at the south-western entrance bears the following inscription:

On Heroes 'Day ( Warriors' Day or Hari Pahlawan ; annually on July 31), the individual states of Malaysia commemorate the soldiers who died during the Second World War . At the same time, the choice of date commemorates the end of the twelve-year state of emergency in 1960. In a broader sense, the national holiday is dedicated to the memory of all those who gave their lives for their country in the course of Malaysia's history.
Installation site
The monument stands within the four-hectare park Taman Ujana Rimba Tropika ( rainforest park ), which according to the statutes was set up for protocol events, for local recreation and for learning purposes. The approximately three million euro complex was financed entirely from funds from the regional association, the building ministry and the city administration. The opening took place on April 12, 2003. The administration is in the hands of the Kota Kinabalu City Council. The park is located on the Jalan Penampang artery , about four kilometers from the city center.
