Tulamben

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tulamben is a small village in the northeast of the Indonesian island of Bali .

Location and population

The place is about 3 hours by car from the island's capital Denpasar . The development of the tourist infrastructure is still in a very early phase. There are numerous hotels of different categories, but there is in fact no village center as all buildings are built along the main street. In the meantime, there are a few smaller shops, restaurants and numerous diving schools in Tulamben .

The beach consists mostly of black lava gravel and mostly slopes relatively flat.

Diving schools and area

The village is primarily known for its diving area . There are diving centers of all known diving organizations . The diving schools and diving tourism have contributed significantly to the economic development of Tulamben in recent years and have also contributed to a social improvement through some projects. For example, the numerous diving schools organize rubbish collection, set up rubbish bins and pay residents for rubbish disposal. Due to the fees at the dive sites, in particular a charge for carrying the diving equipment from the base to the entry point, diving tourism has meanwhile become the main source of income for the population.

The diving areas in and around Tulamben are characterized by a large variety of soft and hard corals. The fish stocks are also still very stable. First and foremost, the diving area is a macro paradise . With the USAT Liberty , which was stranded in 1942 and sank in 1963, one of the most famous wrecks in Indonesia can be found in the immediate vicinity of the beach.
