Tulane Brass Band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tulane Brass Band was a brass band in New Orleans that existed from 1909 to 1946.

During the Great Depression it was one of the few remaining brass bands in New Orleans. George Lewis , Alphonse Picou , Punch Miller , Isidore Barbarin , Frankie Dusen , Gus Metcalf , Kid Howard , Sam Dutrey , John Casimir and trombonist Albert Warner played in the band . In 1945/46 it was dissolved because it lacked the brass section.

The leader was the trumpeter Amos Riley until 1925 and then the trumpeter Alcide "Al" "Big" Landry (around 1880–1949).
