Tullett Prebon is one of the world's largest inter-dealer brokers (IDB) based in London . The company's shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange . Tullett Prebon is a member of the FTSE 250 index .

history

The company was founded in 1971 by Derek Tullett under the name Tullett & Riley as a broker for the foreign exchange market . Numerous branches were opened around the world in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1999, Tullett & Riley merged with Liberty Brokerage to become Tullett Liberty . In the spring of 2003 the company was bought by the financial services company Collins Stewart Plc and renamed Collins Stewart Tullett Plc . In October 2004, Prebon acquired Yamane , a London- based broker that was formed in 1990 through the merger of Babcock & Brown , Kirkland-Whittaker and Fulton Prebon . In December 2006 the company was split into two separate entities: Collins Stewart and Tullett Prebon . In January 2007, Tullett Prebon also acquired the US - Broker Chapdelaine .

Business activity

The company operates as a middleman in the wholesale business and supports the trading activities of its customers, in particular credit banks and investment banks. If a bank receives a trade order from a private customer that it cannot place in an exchange order book, it can submit this transaction over the counter ( OTC trading ) to Tullett Prebon. In addition to the income from securities trading, Tullett Prebon markets the prices arising from OTC trading with its subsidiary Tullett Prebon Information . Because Tullett Prebon determines a price as an intermediary between financial institutions that do not trade through an order book on an exchange, this data is particularly valuable for institutional investors when evaluating illiquid instruments.
