Antonios Rengakos

Antonios Rengakos ( Greek Αντώνιος Ρεγκάκος , * 1957 in Athens ) is a Greek classical philologist .

Rengakos studied classical philology, archeology and ancient history at the University of Freiburg , where he obtained his master's degree as a student of Wolfgang Kullmann in 1979 and in 1982 he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . Since his habilitation (1991) he has taught as a private lecturer at the University of Freiburg. In 1994/1995 he was visiting professor at the University of Vienna . In 1997 he accepted a position at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki , where he has since been active as a professor of Greek studies in teaching and research. From 2005 to 2009 he was head of the Department of Classical Philology.

Rengakos' research interests are epic poetry, Hellenistic poetry and historiography. He wrote numerous essays and monographs on the history of Thucydides and on the reception and transmission of Homeric epics .
