With a daily transaction volume of 1.5 trillion. US dollars, half of it through electronic trading systems , ICAP is the world's largest broker according to its own information . The group primarily provides its services to professional market participants and is active in the fixed income, OTC , money market , foreign exchange , energy, credit and equity derivatives markets . It is strongly represented in the three most important financial centers of London, New York and Tokyo and is present in 20 other financial centers.

history

ICAP was formed in 1999 through the merger of Garban plc and Intercapital plc . In June 2006 ICAP took over competitor Electronic Broking Services (EBS) for US $ 775 million.

ICAP's shares were listed on the FTSE 100 . With a stake of 21.13%, Michael Spencer, founder of Intercapital plc and current CEO, is ICAP's largest shareholder.

In May 2009, it was announced that ICAP, together with 10 investment banks, is attempting to buy the clearing house LCH.Clearnet for around EUR 813 million.

Because of its role in the LIBOR scandal, the company was fined $ 87 million for manipulating key interest rates.
