Tumandok

The Tumandok are an indigenous people who live on the Philippine island of Panay . They are also called "Suludnon", "Panay-Bukidnon" or "Panayanon Sulud".

The name means "indigenous people" in Hiligaynon .

Biennial Tumanduk Assembly has been held since 1998; the 7th took place in April 2009.

The Tumandok are trying to regain rights to their ancestral lands. In 1962, then President Diosdado Macapagal handed over 33,000 hectares to the military. Since 1970 the lives of 18,000 people have been affected by military exercises.

The dance Binanog, which depicts the flight of a Filipino eagle, is well known. In September there is a Tumandok festival in the town of Iloilo .
