Tumani Corrah KBE FRCP (* in the 20th century) is a Gambian physician whose research areas include tuberculosis , HIV and malaria . Corrah is Director of the Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) and Director of Africa Research Development, Medical Research Council.

Life

Corrah studied medicine at First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg , Russia, and at University College Ibadan , Nigeria. In the late 1970s he went to Great Britain, first to Edinburgh , then to Wales, where he trained as a thoracic physician in the Department of Medicine at Gwynedd General Hospital for admission to the Royal College of Physicians . After receiving his MRCP, he was appointed consultant physician in 1981.

He returned to Gambia in 1982 as a medical doctor at the MRC Hospital. His return to Gambia was difficult, because the MRC unit had hardly established itself from the colonial phase of its history. In 1983 Corrah began his PhD on the immunology of TB under the auspices of Professor John Stanford and Professor Hilton Whittle .

In 2014, Corrah was named the first Director Emeritus of the MRC Unit in Gambia and received an Honorary Fellowship from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of clinical research in the Gambia and West Africa as a whole.

Corrah was elected Chairman of the INDEPTH Network Board of Trustees on March 15, 2017. He has served as an advisor to many organizations, including the World Health Organization .

Corrah hosted the Falling Walls conference.

Publications

The habilitation Corrah has published more than 140 publications in journals with peer review, and his most recent work focused on tuberculosis, pneumonia and the role of leadership in human-centered health systems.
