The Tunnel de la Moutarde (also Tunnel Dolhain) is a railway tunnel on the Liège – Aachen route (Ligne 37) in Belgium . It is located in the village of Dolhain between the two Belgian towns of Welkenraedt and Verviers and is 480 meters long. The tunnel takes up two tracks and describes a slight S-curve. It was rebuilt as part of a redesign.

History and construction

Originally there was the Dolhain-Gileppe stop and a short tunnel (50 m) just a few meters east of the tunnel. After the gravel bed in the area of the old Dolhain tunnel had collapsed, the route around the affected area was only passable at 20 km / h. Therefore, in 2007 the decision was made to relocate the route in the direction of the mountainside and to build a new tunnel.

For this reason, the old Dolhain-Gileppe stop was relocated around one kilometer to the north and completely rebuilt there near the Dolhain gravel works. The new tunnel was built in the years 2008–2012 using a completely open construction method and the old route, including the old stopping point and tunnel, was decommissioned or dismantled.
