Tuor (Samedan)
The Tuor ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Puter for "the tower") is a listed tower from the 13th century in Samedan in the Upper Engadin , which has served as a cultural center since December 2010. It is located at the entrance to the Surtuor quarter (“above the tower”) named after him .
,history
The originally four-story tower, first mentioned in 1281, served as a residence for noble families. The Sur Funtauna Merla court also resided here . A prison was later set up there, followed by an archive.
Tuor has been owned by the municipality since 1980. In the 1990s, a youth center was housed in the tower. In 2009/2010 the tower was renovated and expanded to make it accessible to the public.
Todays use
The La Tuor Foundation / Fundaziun, which works with Chesa Planta , has set up the tower as a multimedia cultural center with a basic exhibition on the first floor and temporary exhibitions on the other floors. Even if the term is avoided, the Tuor is de facto an Upper Engadine regional museum .
