Tupan Patera, a volcanic vent 75 km in diameter with a lava lake made of liquid sulfur

Tupan Patera is a volcano on Jupiter's moon Io with a diameter of 79.13 km. It was named in 1997 after the Brazilian god of thunder, the Tupi and Guaraní . Its cliffs are around 900 m high. Parts of the crater are higher than the original crater floor and therefore contain no dark remnants of the lava. Earlier eruptions of the Tupan Patera probably caused the surface of the neighboring moon Amalthea to be colored red.
