The Turkmen Magtymguly State University ( Turkmen Magtymguly adyndaky Türkmen döwlet uniwersiteti , Russian Туркменский государственный университет им. Магтымгулы ) is the largest and most important university in Turkmenistan . It was founded in 1950 in the capital, Ashgabat , when the country was still part of the Soviet Union . The university now consists of six faculties and is named after the Turkmen poet of the 18th century Magtymguly Pyragy . The lectures are usually held in Turkmen and Russian.
