Raşit Öwezgeldyýewiç Meredow ( Russian Рашид Овезгельдыевич Мередов , Raschid Owesgeldyjewitsch Meredow ; * 1960 in Ashgabat ) is a Turkmen politician. He holds the post of Foreign Minister in the Cabinet of the Turkmen Government .

Meredow was born in 1960 in Ashgabat, which at that time still belonged to the Soviet Union . He studied law at Moscow's Lomonosov University and then taught civil law at the Turkmen State University in Ashgabat . In 1990 he switched to politics and worked in the Justice Ministry of the Turkmen SSR , which soon became independent as the Republic of Turkmenistan . In 1993 he became head of the legal department of the Turkmen Presidential Administration under President Saparmyrat Nyýazow . In May 1999 he was appointed first deputy foreign minister and in May 2001 he was elected chairman of the Turkmen parliament. Since July 2001 Meredov has been Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and since February 2007 also Vice Prime Minister. He already held this office from 2003 to 2005. He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).

After the death of Nyýazow in December 2006, Meredow was considered the most promising candidate for the post of President of Turkmenistan. To this end, the country's National Council rushed to make some constitutional amendments. Among other things, the age limit for the election of the president has been reduced from 55 to 40. Despite the prognoses, Minister of Health and Deputy Prime Minister Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow emerged victorious on February 11, 2007 . Even under the new head of state, Meredov holds the function of Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan.
