The tower hill castle Schönfels , also called Insel, Wohl, Wal , is a lost moated castle in the district of Schönfels of the municipality of Lichtentanne in the district of Zwickau in Saxony .
In the southern part of the Talmühlteich in the Plexgrund there are remains of a tower hill castle (Motte) from the time of the German eastern settlement . The clearly visible Bühl with a size of approx. 15 × 16 m comes from a medieval water castle on the Plexe, the Schönfelser Bach. Today's Burgstall (castle site) of the former tower hill castle only shows the Bühl as an island and a moat as part of the pond.
The created dam separates the pond area from the stream. The path to Gospersgrün runs on the southern part . The entrance to the tower hill castle was probably on the eastern side of the island. The steep fortifications with stones are clearly visible there.
