Until 1928 the five elementary schools in the then Prussian community of Aumund had only one gym (today Fröbelstraße 52). Around 10,000 people lived in Aumund at this time. Another hall was planned for the central sports field south of the Schillerschule, then on Werftstrasse, today Ludwig-Jahn-Strasse.

The single-storey, partly clinkered hall with a gable roof was built in 1928/29 in the interwar period for the municipality of Aumund in the modern, typical style of the trade union movement. With a number of side rooms, cultural and social events could be held in addition to sports. The Bauhütte Vegesack and the surrounding area took over the construction. It consisted of various trade unionists. Garden architect Christian Roselius is said to have planned the outdoor area.

The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen found: “The gym on Ludwig-Jahn-Straße is primarily an important social-historical testimony typical of the time ... [It] exemplifies the general enthusiasm for sports in the 1920s ... [It is] a vivid one structural testimony to workers' sports ... The ... Halle Aumund [came] very close to the idea of the 'Volkshaus'. "

Today (2018) the hall and ancillary rooms with 1103 m² of usable space - despite the very poor condition of the building - are used by the Fährer Flur primary school and clubs.
