The Turnverein 1908 Neunkirchen eV is a sports club founded in 1908 in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid , which is composed of various departments. The club colors are blue and white.

history

The club was founded on November 22nd, 1908 under the name Turnverein "Germania", Wiescheid in the town of the same name. The association at that time consisted of 23 founding members. Today the place Wiescheid has risen up in the place Wolperath , which belongs to the community Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. The young club was geared towards gymnastics and joined the German Gymnastics Association as early as 1909 . In 1913 the name was changed to Turnverein Neunkirchen . After the club activities had ceased in the First World War , the club renamed itself again in 1920 to the Germania Wiescheid gymnastics club . After the Second World War , a handball department was founded, which had to be closed again after a short time due to a lack of players. Up until that time, gymnastics took place in various halls of the community, until a gymnasium was built on the site of the old elementary school in 1960.

In 1965 the construction of the sports field on Höfferhofer Straße began. Due to the new venues and the large increase in population in the community in the 1970s, the club experienced a significant increase in membership. During this time, most of the club's departments dedicated to different sports were founded. Other milestones are the construction of the new clubhouse on Rathausstrasse, which was completed in 1998, and the construction of the baseball facility, which was completed in 2005.

successes

The baseball department is active under the name Neunkirchen Nightmares in the German softball league. In 2004, the first men's and the first women's team played in the first division. In 2008, 2009 and 2011 the women's team won the title of German runner-up in softball .

The U18 girls in the basketball department took 5th place in the 1995 German championships and 7th place in 1996. In 1998 they were WBV vice-cup winners and in 1990 cup winners in the West German Basketball Association. In the years 2000–2003 the club played in the 2nd women's basketball division north.

Blue-White Committee

In 1979, the association's carnival activities gave rise to the Blue-White Committee, which was part of the Customs Department. The carnival event, at which the medal “for the honed tongue” was awarded, became known beyond the borders of the community. Prize winners were many prominent personalities including Norbert Blüm , Hans-Dietrich Genscher , Rita Süssmuth and Guido Westerwelle . In 2007 the committee separated from the association and became independent.
