The Turquoise Lake is a lake in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve in Southwest Alaska (USA). The name ( turquoise , English for "turquoise") is derived from the color of the glacier-fed lake. The lake is one of the main attractions of the national park.
geography
The 763 m high lake of glacial origin lies on the western flank of the Neacola Mountains , a glaciated mountain range in the extreme north of the Aleutian chain . The 13.3 km² lake measures 7.5 km in a west-east direction. The maximum sea width is 2.3 km. Turquoise Lake is fed by meltwater from a smaller glacier on the southern flank of Telaquana Mountain . At the western end, the lake is drained by the Mulchatna River , the origin of which the lake forms.
