The Tuuli class (Finnish: wind ) or T-2000 class was a projected Finnish class of military hovercraft designed for the Scandinavian archipelago. The type boat was completed in 2003, but never put into service and canceled again in 2013. No further units were built.

description

The advantage of hovercraft is that not only can land, water and ice surfaces be driven on, but smaller swamp areas can also be passed. It was precisely the Finnish terrain of the Finnish Lake District that drove the construction of the Tuuli class. This "boat class" was developed as an attack unit. So far, such watercraft have been used for transport companies, in particular for amphibious landings. Hovercrafts are not generally suitable for the high seas.

A total of four multi-purpose hovercraft of this class were intended for the Laivue 2000 program (German: Geschwader 2000 ) of the Finnish Navy. Only the FNS Tuuli was completed. The operational doctrine of the Finnish Armed Forces changed and the Laivue 2000 was discontinued in 2003 in favor of Hamina-class boats . The FNS Tuuli was not planned for military operations by the Navy and should be sold. Since no buyer was found until 2013, the boat was finally scrapped in the same year.

The high-tech watercraft was designed primarily as a mine-layer with advanced electronic equipment. In addition, the hovercraft has stealth properties.
