Twine (from English " twine ", "cord / winding") was a website for free linking of knowledge networks. The aim of Twine was the concrete exchange of knowledge between the individual users , whereby it was not about who you know, as with Web 2.0 applications, but about what you know. This aspect embodies precisely those ideas that are behind the semantic web (also known as Web 3.0 ).

Twine was developed by Nova Spivack, CEO of Radar Networks , a Semantic Web - startup from San Francisco founded. The official launch of Twine was in October 2008. The service was funded by investors such as Velocity Interactive Group , Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Vulcan .

On March 11, 2010, Radar Networks was acquired by Evri Inc. along with Twine for an undisclosed amount. As of May 14, 2010, twine.com is no longer supported. Calls are redirected to evri.com. Evri Inc. is funded by Paul Allen ’s affiliate Vulcan Inc.

The URL twine.com is now being used by another company.
