Johannes Naso

John IV Naso (* before 1391; † January 24, 1440 in Meran ) was Bishop of Chur from 1418 to 1440 .

Life

John's date of birth is unknown; it is first attested to in 1391. His father Heinrich was the royal administrator in Prague . From 1391 Johannes studied in Prague , Padua and Bologna . He obtained the Doctor iuris canonici in 1399 and the Doctor iuris civilis in 1402. From 1399 he was a canon in Prague and had benefices in Bohemia and Moravia . In 1413 he was vicar general and official of Olmutz . He is occupied as secretary and councilor to King Wenceslas . John took 1409 as envoy to the Council of Pisaparticipated and in his function as papal chaplain and auditor in 1415 at the Council of Constance held the indictment speech against the Hussites . Johannes was appointed bishop of Chur in 1418, took part in the crusade against the Hussites in 1422 and accompanied King Sigismund to Italy in 1432. At the Council of Basel in 1433 he played an important role as royal procurator . In his diocese he was in dispute with Count Friedrich VII of Toggenburg and the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans . Tensions arose with Austria in the border area between Chur and Tyrol . Due to frequent absences and conflicts with the Church of God , he was captured by Engadinians in 1437 . In 1439 the city of Chur and the Association of Churches appointed three nurses to manage the diocese and Johannes had to leave Chur.
