The bay was measured for the first time in 2014 by the crew of RV Hans Hansson . The bay is named after the name of the glacier of the same name. Its namesake is John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich (1718–1792), First Lord of the Admiralty and also known under the name Jemmy Twitcher.
