The Iris Bay is a small bay near the eastern end of South Georgia . It is located immediately south of Müller Point and 10 km northwest of Cape Vahsel .

The British explorer and navigator James Cook named the entire bay between Cape Vahsel and Cape Charlotte the name Sandwich Bay in 1775 after the British statesman and diplomat John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich . This designation was later discarded. The South Georgia Survey reported in the course of survey work between 1951 and 1952 that the name Iris Bay for the bay described here has long been known and established among sealers and whalers. The further naming background has not been passed down.
